James Millard, Wolverhampton People’s Parliament MP and Hate Crime Lead, met with Inspector Phil Rogers of Wolverhampton Police Authority. They have been working together on identifying potential Safe Places in readiness for the launch of the scheme on Friday the 9th March 2012.

They began with a walk around Dudley Street and discussed the shops that had been identified previously by the People’s Parliament and those chosen by other people with learning disabilities that the MP’s have spoken to.

Around 20 places were identified that the Police will now follow up. They plan to meet managers from each shop, find out if they would like to support the scheme and then issue them with a pack that includes ‘what to do’ notes and the Safe Place logo for them to display in the shop windows.

James really enjoyed the walkabout and said ‘Inspector Rogers was ace. He listened to the ideas we MP’s and our friends had. He also gave us advice on which places would be good and explained to us the reasons why. Thank you, Inspector’.

Keep watching out for more updates!
