Changing Our Lives won the Putting People First award at the Great West Midlands Care Awards. Judges from the Department of Health and Skills for Care recognised the importance of our joint programmes of work in 'putting the individual at the heart of personalisation'. Examples of this partnership work cited were Quality of Life Audits in Health and Social Care, The People's Parliament and work done by self advocates to train professionals across Sandwell and beyond!
At this year's Sandwell's STAR Awards, Changing Young Lives did incredibly well with Gemma Caffrey scooping the runner up Connexion's Young achiever award for her paid work as a member of the Quality Crew and Right Squad Training Team. Isabelle Brant was chosen as Sandwell's Brightest Star for her transitions work. She received her award from Sandwell's Mayor Pauline Hinton. Both Isabelle and Gemmas have worked extremely hard and are extremely positive role models.
In 2010 we also received several awards:
Shining Star - we won an award for Partnership Working for our Safe Places Scheme at Adult and Community Services Shining Star awards night.
Sandwell Employment, Skills And Learning Award - Richard Johnson won the outstanding achiever in the 'Achievement Against the Odds' category.
Star Awards - The Young Voices group won 'Best Youth Group'.
Pride of Sandwell - Nigel Smith was presented this by Councillor Ann Shakleton for his community work at Sandwell Partnership's 'Be Proud' AGM.
